Blackpool Magic Convention - Mario Morris on Street Magic
February 19th, 2010 by Andy Reay
Mario Morris engaged his audience in a talk around how to developing a street show. It gave us an insight and understanding of what street performers are about and how they think. Listening to his history, we learnt that before becoming a street performer he had travelled the middle-east doing various jobs. Then importing gold jewelery into the UK to sell at Covent Garden. It was here that he saw a street performer take a few coins from an audience, performing simple magic with silk hankies. From then on he has travelled the world performing grind shows and street magic, escapes and sword swallowing.
A real wealth of practical information on the rudiments of street magic. Anyone wanting to learn some basic ground rules would do well listening to this performer. Some clever stuff like changing a character, simply by the changing of a hat. Different methods of drawing a crowd from ‘Loud and Rude’ to ‘Subtlty of Curiousity’.
Two lectures into the convention weekend and events are in real great shape. This was a must see lecture.
