Essential Magic Conference Day Two - Session Two
July 17th, 2010 by Magic Convention GuideDay Three’s second session of The Essential Magic Conference was hosted by Guy Hollingworth.
Miguel Angel Gea was first on in the second of todays sessions.

Oddly for a session called ‘card magic’ Miguel started with a coin routine, but, it was a nice coin effect! Performing a coins to box routine, before explaining the methods and moves. He then followed by with a coins to glass routine, in both of these Miguel explained some lovely moves with the coins, and some great subtleties.
Barry and Stuart took to the floor, with an intimate party for three where they did the ’spoon on nose’ party trick, explaining it to the audience and spectator as needing ’something sticky’ a 6 inch nail!

Cyrill Takayama was introduced with a short video of his TV special from last year, commenting on how the EMC ‘has been the most amazing 3 days of my life’, he then talked through various effects from his shows, and took questions from the attendees.

Richard Wiseman, talked through via a performance his iPhone app - Telepath.

He talked about developing applications for devices like the iPhone, and how it’s important not to redevelop stuff thats already out there, he used ‘Telepath’ as a good example of new ways to achieve the results.
Ton Onosaka talked about the 1764 magic book ‘Hokasen’.
Ton, with Max Mavens help, talked through his work on reproducing the book. Hokasen is a three part manuscript that is believed to contain the first descriptions of the the linking rings, and the cups and balls, and also is considered to be an important early Japanese instructional text on performance magic.

Gaetan Bloom is just full of killer ideas, and always a pleasure to watch. He opened with a lovely ‘fishing game’. Two spectators with fishing rods got to try and hook boxes with hooks on the lids (in a similar way to the fun fair ‘fishing’ stalls).

It ended up leaving the Gaetan with a single box that hadn’t been ‘hooked’ containing a valuable prize, the method being so simple!
Mike Caveney, Eric Mead, Max Maven and William Kalush sat on the ‘History of Magic’ panel that was hosted by Stan Allen

Lennart Green set opened with a video trailer for Lennarts new DVD ‘ Lennart Green - Masterfile’
He then ran through a very quick routine using a rainbow deck which was lovely.
