Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp 2010 - Day One

September 8th, 2010 by Lee Asher

You carry your duffel bag into the parking lot. There are already a couple of campers standing in circles showing off their new tricks that they’ve learned over the year. You see several unicycles and shiny metal briefcases. You know that you’re in the right place.

The bus pulls in and everyone piles on. There’s an instructional magic video playing but no one is watching. They’re all too busy re-connecting with friends and making new ones.

After about three hours of jamming and talking, you arrive at camp. The bus is emptied and you go into the mess hall for your first meal at camp: a lunch of salad and cold cut sandwiches. With lunch comes Magic Mike’s speech. He introduces himself as the camp director and exclaims that, “This year is going be the best year yet!

After lunch, you get sorted into your cabin. Everyone grabs their bags and heads to their cabins to unpack. Soon, it’s time for the swim test. You swim several laps and tread water for two minutes and you get your paper wristband and head for the diving board.

After swim, it’s time to jam in the cabin and get to know the people that you’re going to be spending the week with. Soon, it’s dinnertime. Following the meal, the cabins start brainstorming interesting and original ways to introduce their cabins to the rest of the camp for the show later that night.

All of the cabins make their way to the theatre for a show to see world-class magicians perform their acts only a couple feet away. After the show, you make your way back to your cabin to get ready for another day at  Sorcerers Safari Magic Camp.
