The Essential Magic Conference was again a huge success (our review of the sessions should start appearing soon). There are too many highlights to recall. But here are a few moments that we are sure will bring back some fond memories of the world’s only digital conference for magic and magicians.

But the most important thing is.. that you can STILL REGISTER for the conference, all the sessions are now online for your viewing. Register now and you will also receive the DVDs mailed to your home absolutely free. This is a $150 value! And the registration only costs $90 or 70 Euros.

Lots of people have been asking whether EMC will work on the iPad. Well, today was a very exciting day. Today was the day we saw live streaming video from Studio 33 not only on the iPad but also on the iPhone. Yes, everyone has been running up and down the corridors of Studio33 holding up their iPhones and iPads and marvelling at the fact that they can see trailers for “Mistérios” and “Lennart Green Masterfile” being broadcast live from the studio.

We still have some technical challenges to meet but our tests are promising. If those prove successful we will make an official announcement about iPad and iPhone compatibility.

However, you can already access all our online EMC archive via your iPad or iPhone. Just visit the EMC website and try it for yourself. You can view the free Passion for Magic videos or the member only videos. Bookmark the site. It’s a very cool way to access your on demand content.

Before EMC begins we will be doing some broadcast tests. We will give everyone urls that they can log on to test their computers, iPads and iPhones. This will give you the opportunity to make sure your software is up to date and can carry our live stream.

You should note that iPads and iPhones carry the live video feed only. You will not be able to participate in the live chat. You need a computer with a keyboard to do that effectively.

Our web team’s preferred browser is Chrome but EMC has been designed to work with all the major browsers. You should have no problems as long as your browser is up to date and your computer is reasonably healthy. As before we will have a choice of streams that cater for all bandwidths.

I had a great time at EMC 2010 and am delighted to be invited back again this year. Last time I spoke about the psychology of magic, focusing on how it is that the human mind has put a man on the moon and conquered major diseases, yet still gets fooled by the likes of dippy duck. Along the way I examined how optical illusions worked, how people look but don’t see, and how key aspects of magic tricks vanish from memory.

There was a great atmosphere at Studio 33, and I don’t think that I will ever forget the moment when ace pickpocket Apollo Robbins deftly removed my trousers.
