Kidology UK 2009

Kidology, Wolverhampton 2009
reviewed by Dan Hudson

I have been to every Kidology so far and in my opinion this is probably the best so far.

Ali Cadabra – Walkabout Magic for Children
Ali Cadabra lectured at the first Kidology in 2004 and had some good ideas then and also today, however some bits that were in his first lecture were also in this lecture on walkabout, Ali mentioned that he does lots of his walkabout as characters I believe he should have lectured in this style he did get changed at the end! Overall a good lecture

Derek Lever –
Derek showed some children’s magic and props from years gone by, I wasn’t looking forward to this lecture and didn’t know how this would go down with a group of Children’s Entertainers wanting to see the latest kids magic tricks, but I really enjoyed the props and Derek’s throw away style and I think most of the crowd did to. It was very interesting to see how older props were made but was surprised at how many of them are still being produced today.

Michael Diamomd- Halloween Magic
I was looking forward to a lecture all about Halloween and spooky magic, I know lots of Children’s Entertainers don’t really have a themed show for this part of the year. Michael’s lecture was very good, it was funny, interesting and entertaining, some great ideas on how to change your existing props and decorate them to use in a “spooky or Halloween show” I also purchased Michaels lecture notes at £10 they were more like a book with lots of ideas on props and games.

Michael J Fitch
At Blackpool earlier this year Michael won the title of “Childrens Entertainer of the year 2009”. Michael decided to set up on the bigger main stage and his setup included roller banners t’bar with lights and a couple of tables with his props set. He did a cabaret style childrens show with bigger illusions, comedy and music he is a gadget man and you could see this in his lecture he talked about the benefit of having music over the top of your show this for me was the best lecture of the day.

Congratulations to Practical Magic and Albion Magic for a good day and I have already cleared a slot in my diary for Tuesday 7th September 2010
