The Eighty-fourth Annual I.B.M. Convention in Norfolk, Virginia, July 3-7, promises to be a convention to remember. It will continue to build on the new ideas and events introduced at the Dallas “reinvention convention,” blending the old favorites with exciting new faces and events.

When you pick up your registration packet in Norfolk, you will be issued your own passport to gain entry to a four-day extravaganza of magic lectures, workshops, shows, and special events. Not only is the passport your schedule for entry to these special magic events, if you use this passport to visit each of the purveyors of magic in the Dealers’ Room and obtain their stamps indicating your visit, you will become eligible for special drawings.

Dale Salwak is producing a very special Stars of Asia gala that will highlight some of Asia’s top magic stars from China, Japan, and Korea in an I.B.M. exclusive show. This one-of-a-kind production will mix traditional Asian entertainment with the avant-garde, including stage illusion, comedy, manipulation, and dance in an explosion of color and mystery. Among the feature acts on this show are China’s Ma Yanyan and Butterfly Lovers and Korea’s Yuji Yasuda, with more outstanding Asian artists to be announced.

BIG THREE EVENT: This year’s BIG THREE will feature, over three days, (1) new and different close-up magic by Canada’s David Acer, Spain’s Dani DaOrtiz, John Bannon, Hannibal, Master Payne, and Geoff Williams; (2) Paul Gertner‘s acclaimed one man show, Ten Fingers, and (3) a special I.B.M, lecture by the multi-talented Wayne Houchin.

I.B.M. Gold Medal winners George Saterial and Arthur Trace will return to grace our evening shows, and will be joined by other stars, including Justin Flom, Chip Romero, Rich Bloch, and Vlad Kryvonogov from the Ukraine. Other outstanding magical artists will be announced in the very near future.

Your passport also gains you entry to The Magic Six Pack, which is a refinement of the S.I.G.s (Special Interest Groups) from the Dallas
convention. In Norfolk, attendees will have a choice of six different special workshops, each devoted to a single magic topic, for an in-depth
educational experience.

Special room set-ups are being created to enhance the viewing enjoyment of the close-up and lecture experiences. Did we say “lectures?” Your passport takes you to a total of ten (yes, 10!) lectures and special sessions! In additional there will be three Gala Stage Shows, a Youth Showcase, an optional Banquet and Show, a special kick-off Welcome Party, Youth events, and Spouses events. WOW!

Let’s not forget magic’s most exciting stage and close-up competitions for the coveted I.B.M Gold Medal and I.B.M. Gold Cups and cash prizes. If you are planning to compete, you need to submit your application and a video of your performance to our Contest Chairpersons, Oscar and Melody Munoz.

Information on the contest and contest applications can be found on the I.B.M. Web Portal at www.magician.org.

Don’t wait – register today and reserve your Passport to Magic in Norfolk on July 3-7, 2012. There is simply no other magic convention like the I.B.M. Annual Convention. It is the oldest and the best! No brag, just fact!
